SLEEP WHEN YOU'RE DEAD.

Inspired by classic point and click games, Choose Your Own Adventure books, and B-grade horror films, Cryohazard is a short story of waking from cryogenic sleep in a dilapidated research facility full of mystery, mayhem, and monstrous mutants.  Multiple endings and numerous gruesome deaths are abound in this game designed for the original Game Boy, compatible with emulators and real hardware.

Controls (including web browser controls):

D-pad (Arrow Keys) - cursor movement

A button (Z key) - interact, use items

Start button (Enter key) - open inventory menu (during exploration mode)

The ROM file should run on any software or hardware that can play original Game Boy games.  The most accurate emulator of choice is BGB.

I remember playing this game last year and having a ton of fun with the horror/adventure aspect of it!!

I really enjoyed this. As mentioned in the description, this one feels a lot like 'Choose your own Adventure' books -there were indeed some that tried their darndest to be scary and even gory- because every attempt of you hunting for the best ending is short and to-the-point. Coming to it from this viewpoint, I have no problem at all with the pacing.

Looking at the screenshots here now, I will give it at least one more go, see what maybe I've missed.

This was a lot of fun! Really loved the art, too. Kudos!

Fun game! Awesome art and music! I got two endings so far, about to try a "fight everything" run.

I like the concept, but having to grind back through the same stuff again to get to each of the endings is tedious, especially with the web version and no way to savestate, and how slow the text and interaction is. I'd like to see it a little more responsive.

Thanks for the feedback!  I considered implementing save functionality but ultimately decided that worrying about saving before every decision would become a bothersome part of the gameplay loop, not to mention it would complicate physical cartridge production by requiring a save battery.  If save scumming is your jam (which is totally fine!) then I recommend using the rom on an emulator with save states.

Oh no, I mean that design is totally fine, I just wish you could press A to skip through text and that the cursor moved a bit faster is all. Since as long as you do it in the right order it's impossible to die, after the first run when you know what to do and just kinda want to reach the end to see the other stuff

aha, understood!  I agree on the cursor speed and plan to speed it up if whenever make an update to the rom.

Thanks everyone for the outpouring of support so far since the game released.  I made a rather cathartic "HD" remix of one of the cutscene music loops, enjoy!

Excellet game. Keep up the good work!

Unforgiving, yet very intriguing story and creepy sprites! Are there multiple ends?

There are indeed multiple endings.  Thanks for playing!

One wrong decision will end you and makes you start the game over. Better play it with savestates if you can. Haven’t finished it myself yet but it’s cool looking and nice atmosphere so I’ll keep brute forcing my way through it!
